Going Green with Goats is a group I started in response to a situation I have been dealing with for almost 5 years now. In my area, you are required to have 2 acres of land in order to keep 2 goats. Myself and many others are wanting this to be changed and it seems I am the one that is going to be initiating this change. So on Feb. 22, I will be meeting with our county supervisor, Jeff Stone, in order to see what he has to say about this. Code Enforcement has been after me for about 5 years now because I keep goats. I will post our progress here. If you feel inclined to support our cause, please leave a comment stating your feelings and I will pass it on to the supervisor.
Supervisor Stone canceled again. Due to the weather his office said. So I have to call on Monday and re-schedule again. Some people I have spoken with think he is avoiding me and the whole goat and sustainable living issue. It won’t work though, cause I will hunt him down or show up at a supervisor’s meeting if I have to. I really am hoping for a quiet resolution to this situation, but that might not be a possibility. Time will tell.
We have been re-scheduled for March 28th at noon. I hope he makes it up this time!
We finally met with Supervisor Stone. We asked him to change the ordinance about goat keeping. He said it was a reasonable request and would look into it and get back to us by the end of June. Well, that didn’t happen. However, we did go to court in April to fight the citation given to us in Dec and we won! Our case is closed. Now I don’t know if they can site us again or not, but at least it is a start. We will continue to work with Mr. Stone and let him know that people want to be able to keep a couple goats and a few chickens to try and live a more sustainable lifestyle and hopefully the powers that be will listen to what the people want.

I will keep following up on this situation and hope that the outcome is a positive one for you and for others who want to keep goats and chickens for raising them for milk and eggs.
